Liturgical music publisher awards grants to more than 40 parishes

PORTLAND, Ore. (CNS) -- Forty-four parishes in the United States received $114,000 in assistance this year through the OCP parish grants program. Since the program started in 2001 more than $800,000 has been awarded to 400 churches. Parishes in every diocese in the country have received benefits. Based in Portland, OCP is a nonprofit publisher of liturgical music and worship resources, formerly called Oregon Catholic Press. "Service to the church is one of the guiding principles of our company," said John Limb, the publisher, in a statement. "We're a not-for-profit, but we are a successful company, thanks in large part to the support we've received from churches." Limb added that "being in a position to give back to the communities that have helped us spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ is a tremendous blessing."

New partnership promises greater levels of service

PORTLAND, Ore.-OCP has acquired Liturgical Publications of St. Louis, Inc., joining two long-established Catholic companies that have served churches for many years.

LPI St. Louis began its mission in 1972 to assist churches with their communication needs. More than 1,000 churches in thirty states across the country have made use of free weekly bulletins, annual directories, websites and other services provided by the company.

After the sale of LPI St. Louis to OCP on March 15, a separate corporation was formed, called Pastoral Solutions, Inc. This new company will continue to provide the services previously offered by LPI St. Louis. Pastoral Solutions is based at the former headquarters of LPI St. Louis in Ellisville, Mo. Bob Freesmeier, former director of church services and publication printing for OCP, has been named general manager of Pastoral Solutions.

"Combining the leadership and resources of OCP and LPI St. Louis puts Pastoral Solutions in a unique position," said Freesmeier. "We are now able to offer parishes across the country services that no other company can."

OCP, a not-for-profit publisher of liturgical music and worship resources based in Portland, Oregon, has been in operation for more than 80 years. Worship programs produced by OCP, including Breaking Bread and Today's Missal, are used in two-thirds of Catholic churches in the United States and are distributed worldwide.
